Early Morning Embrace

“He’s probably still asleep, or out fighting,” she thought to herself.

Looking into the mirror, there was a picture of Vox on the glass. Juno looked at this photograph and just smiled.

“I remember when I revived you,” she whispered to this picture. “Ever since you became my knight, you’ve trained so many new knights…you’re one of a kind.”

“Princess?”

A familiar voice spoke outside, summoning the princess.

“That’s him,” she clasped her hands together with joy.

Rising from the chair she sat on, Juno walked out onto the balcony. Hands resting on the railing, Juno’s smile widened into a beam at the sight of Vox, and the swordsman was even holding a bunch of flowers for her. Juno chuckled softly in amusement, seeing a noticeable blush on Vox’s features.

“I was just thinking about you,” giggled Juno. “Did you just pick those flowers?”

“All morning,” he replied. “Can I come inside?”

“Of course you can, sir knight,” she gave him a nod of the head. “I’ll let the guards know and they’ll open the doors for you.”

He smiled at the princess. She looked beautiful in her long nightgown. Vox assumed it was too early for the princess to get dressed anyway.

Running up the staircase with excitement, the swordsman zipped to the second floor of the castle in a heartbeat. With guards being present in every corner of the hallway, Vox walked across the landing until he reached a set of double doors. Taking in a deep breath, Vox knocked on the door.

“I’m here, princess,” he called through the door. “I’m here with the flowers I spent the morning picking for you.”

Opening the double doors, Juno beamed widely from ear-to-ear as soon as she saw the swordsman up close now. Happily, the princess immediately gave Vox a big hug. Smiling at the joyful princess, Vox swathed one arm around Juno’s torso. The other hand was holding a nice set of flowers; a bunch of flowers that Juno was now squishing with her tight embrace.

“Easy now,” cackled Vox. “I’m sorry if this is too early, princess,” he expressed regret as a drop of sweat showed on his forehead.

“It’s fine,” she answered. “I was already awake when you called.”

“That was lucky,” he quipped.

Loosening the embrace now, Juno held onto Vox’s hand and pulled the man into her bedroom. After closing the double doors behind them, Juno picked the flowers from Vox’s grasp and gave them a sniff. “Perfect,” she commented. “You know how to make a woman smile, huh?”

Standing there with a coy smile, Vox let out a little laugh at Juno’s remark. “Well, I try,” he responded shyly. “I’m happy you like them. I picked the purple flowers I could find as that’s the colour I think of when I think about you,” he admitted.

“Oh, really? That’s a really nice thing to hear,” she said.

Drawing closer to her nightstand, Juno popped these lovely purple flowers into an empty vase. The princess smiled at the sweet gift, quite enjoying the contrast between the purple flowers and the golden-plated bed. Her bedroom shared hues of pinks, golds, some browns here and there.

“Why don’t you sit on my bed, sir knight? Or maybe even sit at my dressing table?” Juno suggested. She giggled some in amusement, seeing her favourite knight still standing by the double doors and acting so shy. “I don’t want you to feel scared around me,” she added.

“Thanks, princess.”

Sitting at the dressing table, Vox blushed when he spotted the photograph of himself stuck to the reflective glass. The blush over his features appeared red, and the swordsman even felt tears building up in his eyes at the sight. He was so sensitive.

“I-I…princess…I-I didn’t know you appreciated me so much,” he mumbled behind quivering lips.

It was a simple photograph of Vox, a portrait of him taken in the courtyard behind this castle. Vox remembered when Juno captured this photograph on her camera.

“What do you mean, sir knight?” Juno questioned the swordsman, and she spotted him crying in the mirror. “Are you feeling okay?”

Performing a slight nod at Juno’s question, Vox noticed the princess looking at him in the mirror. She was standing far behind him, still standing beside the nightstand. Nevertheless, Juno started to approach him. The princess rested her arms around Vox’s collar, as she went on to hug him from behind. This was a gentle, loving embrace.

“You don’t need to cry,” she told him.

Raising one hand, Juno wiped a falling tear away from Vox’s pale cheek. Vox just let Juno hug him. This cuddle did stop the swordsman from crying more, albeit it didn’t stop Vox from laughing.

“You’re too sweet,” he mentioned.

Sitting on Vox’s lap, Juno wrapped her arms around Vox’s collar again. This time, the princess was able to gaze into his amber eyes. Even though Juno liked hugging Vox from behind, she liked to see his face more. She liked seeing those sharp features and pretty eyes.

“I love you, Vox,” she said in a hushed tone.

Vox just smiled.

Planting a kiss onto Vox’s blushing cheek, the princess smirked when she saw Vox shy away at the kiss. The swordsman held around Juno’s torso, keeping her held close as she sat on his lap.
