Just a short one that was inspired by a prompt to write a story where a medication has the opposite effect to what was expected. Thanks to the ability amplifiers who inspired this tale.

If I didn’t rely so much on my phone, I would have thrown it out the window or attacked it with a hammer when the alarm went off that morning. It wasn’t that I was upset it was Monday again, but rather, it was the date. It was our fifteenth wedding anniversary and, to be honest, I wondered why we were celebrating it.
It wasn’t that I hated Rick, but we were just existing. Caring for three growing sons whilst working full-time meant I had little time for myself, let alone my marriage. Sex had become a once-a-month chore that I pretended to be interested in, all the while waiting for Rick to finish so I could roll over and get to sleep.
Rick was an amazing father. He never thought twice about taking a personal day if one of the boys was sick and needed caring for. He cooked dinner three times a week and folded and put away the dry laundry. He did so much more than the husbands of my friends.
I didn’t mind having three sons. I’ve never been a girly girl who wanted to do kids hair and dress them up in party dresses, so sons suited me. I just felt I never had time to myself. Angus, the youngest had started school this year and it was great being able to have the three of them at the same drop-off and pick up point instead of juggling childcare and a school run.
The boys were all popular amongst their peers and it seemed like there was a birthday party they were invited to every weekend. I had a nice group of friends myself and enjoyed catching up for a wine or two when we could. But I wasn’t satisfied. Rick sensed this too and, although he tried, I did not feel like opening up to him.
“Good morning my beautiful bride. You know you are just as sexy, if not more than when we married fifteen years ago.”
“Stop it, Rick, there’s no time and the boys will be up soon.”
“I’m not trying to come on to you, Pammy, I just want to remind you how amazing I know you are.”
I tried to thank him as he planted a kiss on my forehead, but I did wonder what he wanted.
Over breakfast I tried to stop thinking about work and the spreadsheets that waited for me. I had left an important task from Friday to leave early and collect Tom who hadn’t been feeling well. I knew there was a report due Wednesday and although I had planned to work on it over the weekend, but we were just too busy.
“I don’t want to go to after school care anymore, Mum, I’m eleven now and none of my friends go.” I knew Matty had a point, but I did not want him looking after his brothers for an hour or two after school.
“I know, mate, but Tom and Angus are still too little to be home alone.” Rick tried to placate him.
“I’m not too young.” Tom argued indignantly. I simply continued to load the dishwasher.
“Can you leave early again Mum?”
“Sorry, Matty, but no.”
“Da-a-a-ad”
“Matty, your mum does a very important job in the company, and she is great at it, she is more than just your mum.”
Rick and I were more than life partners, we were partners in business too. We met at uni when he was a computer geek, and I was an accounting geek. He had an idea for a start-up, and I could see it had legs. Eighteen years later and we were successful. I lead a great team in the accounting and payroll department and Rick still headed up product development.
We led a comfortable lifestyle, much nicer than either of us had experienced growing up. I never thought of leaving him, but I wondered what life would be like if I wasn’t being pulled in so many directions.
“I’ve got a meeting this afternoon, honey so we’ll have to take separate cars today; I’ll take the boys to school if you like?” Rick tried to give me a hug, but my mind was already on spreadsheets.
“Thanks. I’m sorry I’m such a misery guts these days. Happy anniversary. How about we grab takeaway tonight or something to celebrate?”
“Or something.” Rick smiled, “You know I still adore you and I credit every success with the company to you.”
“You’ve always been a bullshitter.” I smiled and gave him a hug and a kiss. “I’ll see you at work.”
I did love him, but at times I wondered if I liked what we had become.

“Hey boss, Rick wants to see you in his office.” Melody my assistant came to tell me soon after nine.
I grabbed my notebook, scribbling down notes of things I needed to do and headed to the other end of the building. I wondered why we never put a regular Monday meeting in our diaries and noted this to bring up with Rick.
“Pam, honey, you seemed so stressed this morning and I wanted to check you’re ok.” Rick ushered me into his office, and we sat on the couch together, our feet up on the glass coffee table.
“I’m tired, that’s all.”
“You don’t seem happy. Is it me? Can I do more or something?”
“You do plenty.” I looked at Rick and could see his genuine concern, “I just, I don’t know. I’ve tried so hard to have it all and I wonder what for, when all I seem to do is the same shit different day.”
“What if we sold the business?”
“You’ve had an offer?”
“No, but I’m sure I could put some feelers out.”
“But we’ve built it up, and you love doing all that you do.”
“Yes, but you don’t.”
“I do, it’s just, well I suppose now that Angus is at school I don’t take that half-day Wednesday like I used to and after each of the boys I had a few months off. All I am now is work Pam and mum Pam and I miss being just Pam Pam.”
Rick was stroking my hand. It was lovely sitting at the start of the day and simply being together.
“What’s on your radar today?”
“I have to get that spreadsheet ready before the board meeting on Wednesday.”
“Can’t Melody do it? She’s more than capable.”
I knew she was. I also knew I had trouble giving things up.
“What’s this?” I asked wanting to change the subject and picking up a bottle of pills on the table in front of us.
“Oh, Donna gave them to me, told me they’re energy pills or something, you know what she’s like with her herbal shit and stuff.”
Donna was into a lot of what I would call new-age claptrap, but I giggled as I read the label on the bottle.
“Designed to energise and invigorate. Here– check out the ingredients- might as well be eye of newt and toe of frog!” I unscrewed the top and smelt the tablets. They smelt like sugar. “Take one to two as needed. Yeah right!” I said as I popped two on my palm before placing them in my mouth and chewing. “Oh gosh, they’re sweet. I think they’re just Mentos. Here, you take one!”
“All good, hon. I’ve had two coffees already. At least we can still laugh together. You take them. And hey, remember, I still adore you and always will. Forever and always.”
Forever and always. It had been written in our vows at our wedding.
“We should have a regular Monday morning catch-up like this, like we used to.”
“I like that idea. Now go and think about getting Melody to do that work for you and do something different.”
Rick kissed my fingers and we stood up. This time I accepted his hug and told him that I loved him too. He really was a remarkable man, especially for putting up with me as he did.
~*~*~*~*~
“Melody, can you come in here for a tick please?” I asked my assistant as I returned to my office, “Here, take a seat.”
“You ok, boss? Was everything alright with Mr Jacobsen?”
“Everything’s fine. I just want to give you some more responsibility, that’s all. You’ve been with us for six years now and you have an amazing eye for detail. The data you sent through on Friday from the team, can you collate it please and get it ready for the board meeting on Wednesday?”
“Sure, I mean, wow, yeah, sure.”
I knew Melody would be shocked. I was never one to delegate.
“Wonderful, I’m going to take a couple of personal hours this morning and go and do some shopping. It’s Rick and my anniversary today and I want to get him something special.”
Melody looked at me strangely. I will admit, I did not know what had come over me. I never took personal hours, and I never went shopping. I was used to telling everyone to work smarter, not harder, and yet here I was unwilling to yield to anyone else. I could understand Melody’s confusion. This was not me, well it was not the harried mother of three I had become.
~*~*~*~*~
At the mall I knew what I wanted. My shopping complete I sat down for a coffee and started thinking about that day fifteen years before. My mother and bridesmaids had made the day so special. My dress was big and floofy, but I loved it. I remembered walking down the aisle in the garden of the home I’d grown up in, accompanied by my parents who told me they were not giving me away, but rather accompanying me on my last walk as a single woman.
Rick looked amazing in his tux. He was tall and skinny and his Adam’s apple bobbed as he swallowed several times as I approached him. His eyes were full of love and adoration. My heart was so full.
“You look amazing, just as amazing as yesterday, but a different amazing.” Rick whispered in my ear as the celebrant started reading her lines.
I thought back to the first dance we shared as husband and wife, something we had both practised for weeks and yet still managed to stuff up on the night. It didn’t matter, we both still laughed. The cake that my aunt had lovingly made, and yet my young cousin had tried to eat, grabbing a handful to eat before the ceremony. Aunt Sherry was horrified, but I thought it was hilarious and never failed to remind Jasmine of her antics as a three-year-old.
That night in a swanky hotel where Rick and I undressed each other and explored each other’s bodies as if it was the first time. It wasn’t, but it was different, sensual, and exciting.
My phone pinged with an email from Melody confirming the style of graph I preferred.
‘It’s yours to do what you like with– have fun with it!” I replied. I could almost see Melody’s look of shock. Pam Jacobsen did not let people do what they liked.
“Donna, it’s Pam. What’s my husband’s diary looking like around noon?”
“Mrs Jacobsen, um, he’s in a meeting until 12ish and then he has a meeting off-site at 2:30, it says he needs fifteen minutes travel time.”
“I’ve told you before, Donna, call me Pam! Now can you block out 12 ’til 2 for lunch with his wife? Oh, and while you’re at it, block out mine too please, I think you’ve got access?”
“Um, yes, Mrs, um, Pam. Does he need to be anywhere for lunch?”
“Just tell him to come to my office. Oh, and can you tell Melody that the two of you are going to lunch together at Chez Phillippe’s? You both like it there if memory serves.”
“Wow, Mrs, um Pam. Thanks!”
I knew Melody and Donna were firm friends and it never hurt to spoil our amazing personal assistants every so often.
~*~*~*~*~
“Hi Boss, that report is almost finished. Oh, and Donna tried to prank me again- she almost got me too saying you told her that we were going to Chez Phillippe’s for lunch!”
“No, she’s right! And seeing you’ve all but finished the report, just take the rest of the day off.”
“Are you feeling alright? I mean, I’m not complaining, but ever since you came back from Mr Jacobsen’s office you’ve been acting kinda, well, un-Pam like.”
“You’ve only known me since I was pregnant with Angus. I’ve come to realise that having it all doesn’t have to mean doing it all. Enjoy your afternoon.”
I prepared my office for lunch, placing the sushi platter in the middle of the table. Eyeing the purchases I had made, I took a deep breath and got ready. Rick was a saint, and he deserved a little bit of pampering and spoiling every so often.
“Hey honey, Donna said something about lunch in your office. Ooh… sushi, our favourite.”
“Hey Studly. I took some time off this morning and did some thinking. I’m hopeless at taking my own advice. I tell everyone else to work smarter, not harder, and then I don’t delegate. So, Melody’s almost finished the report, and you need spoiling.” I walked over and placed my arms around my husband’s neck, pulling him in for a kiss.
“You haven’t called me Studly for over ten years! And didn’t we say early on no affection at work?”
“That was after your assistant at the time, Brad wasn’t it, the gay one, walked in on us with you banging me on your desk!”
“I remember that very well, I don’t know who was more embarrassed though! That was in the Royal Road building though, wasn’t it?”
“I can’t believe we’ve never done it in this building.”
“I feel like every time we’ve done it recently, I’ve pressured you.”
“It’s not your fault. I bought you something this morning.” I started undoing the buttons on my blouse.
“Did you just. Does it have anything to do with that lace that’s peeking through your shirt?” Rick had moved closer to me and taken over my disrobing, “Oh my, it’s one of those things you wore on our wedding night!”
“A corset, yes.” I started undoing the buttons on Rick’s shirt. He never wore a tie to work, but always wore a button-down shirt tucked into his tailored pants. “I know that if I undo this belt your pants won’t drop to the ground because something is pointing out to hold them up.”
“You are so incredibly sexy.”
“Ditto.”
Rick moaned as he slipped my skirt down my legs and saw the suspenders and stockings attached to the corset and the fact I was not wearing any knickers. He ran his finger over my mons before slipping it between my folds and feeling my wetness.
Carrying me to my desk, he laid me down before kneeling between my legs and ever so lightly running his tongue around my thighs.
“You’re teasing me!” I whimpered, trying to guide his head to my sex.
“All in good time…”
Early on in our relationship, Rick would spend hours eating my pussy. I was his first girlfriend and what he lacked in experience he sure as hell made up for in enthusiasm. I’d had one other boyfriend who had never taken me to the heights Rick took me.
My mouth flew open, but no sound escaped as I felt Rick’s tongue expertly explore me, twirling over my clitoris before exploring further afield, even as far as my back passage. I had forgotten that this was how things were once upon a time.
Sensing my impending explosion, Rick changed from lapping to sucking on my clit, sending me over the edge, my pussy clamping around the finger he had slid inside me.
“Shall we sushi?” Rick asked, planting small kisses over my corset on his way up my body.
“I mean, if you want, but I was hoping…” I leant forward and undid Rick’s pants, pushing them and his jocks down his legs. I grabbed his cock in my hand. It felt hotter than ever, drips of precum leaking from the tip. I guided it to my waiting hole and we both leant forward as we joined together as one.
“I’m not going to last long, honey…” We were both meeting each other’s thrusts.
Sensing my own build-up again I wrapped my legs around Rick’s back, drawing him deeper as my arms encircled his neck, bringing him down for the most sensual kiss. Be it the angle or the stimulation from the kiss, but my pussy was convulsing, and Rick was grunting as he unloaded inside me.
“I may be a moody bitch at times, but I do love you.”
“Not as much as I love you!”
“Forever and always?”
“Forever and always. I’m going to ask Donna to organise a crate of those pills too– I like the energy they created!”
“I think they were more of a chill pill, but I’m not complaining. I’ll leave early and grab the boys from school. Perhaps we can all go out for dinner?”
“Sounds good. Would you mind if I got Donna and Melody to pencil out lunch tomorrow- my treat in my office?”
“I think I could clear my diary.” I smiled in the afterglow.
“I’ll make sure I lock the door!”
“You better! Now let’s eat!”
